About Nathan
Nathan D. Franklin, CPA has nearly fifteen years of successful experience as a CPA and MBA in environments that include public accounting, start-up ventures, privately-owned businesses and a global Fortune 500 company, providing a unique perspective on using financial information to enhance the value of strategic decision-making, increase profits and improve cash flow.
Nathan began with a regional CPA firm, where as a Senior Accountant he planned, organized and supervised financial statement audits for small and mid-sized businesses and provided consulting and tax preparation services to individuals, partnerships and small businesses. Nathan received over $50,000 of penalty and interest abatement from the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of a small business client when asked to assist with a dispute related to client-prepared business tax filings.
Nathan then entered private industry and worked for two start-up ventures. As the Accounting Manager for an international law firm, Nathan played an integral role in developing accounting procedures necessary to accommodate the firm’s growth and supervised four members of the firm’s accounting team. Nathan also developed a tracking program and process that captured over $1.5 million of recoverable client costs, thus eliminating the failure to recover these costs during disbursement of client settlements.
Later, as the Controller for a start-up private investment company, Nathan established financial policies for all twenty-five related entities (primarily sports and entertainment ventures) in the firm’s portfolio and directed all processes related to payroll, employee benefits and human resources. Nathan also designed and implemented uniform accounting practices, charts of accounts, general ledger maintenance procedures and financial reporting packages for all twenty-five entities and automated consolidation of information for financial statements.
Nathan then joined the corporate accounting team of a global Fortune 500 company, where he prepared financial reporting and analysis packages for the company’s officers and board of directors. Nathan also received a special merit award for his significant achievement of company objectives related to his work on the company’s largest equity investment.
Following this, Nathan returned to privately-owned business as the Controller for a premier regional operator and investor in senior housing properties. In this role, Nathan oversaw the company’s accounting department and was responsible for all financial aspects of the company, including revenue management, cash flow planning and financial reporting. Nathan established uniform budget procedures for the company’s ten properties with combined annual gross revenue of approximately $25 million.
